LEVEL 01
OUR PRIMARY GOAL WITH LEVEL 01 IS TO ENSURE THAT KIDS REMAIN INTERESTED AND HAVE FUN WHILE LEARNING THE ART OF BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU. EVERY CHILD BETWEEN THE AGES OF 3 AND 7 STARTS AT THIS LEVEL, WHERE WE FOCUS ON HELPING THEM ACHIEVE THE GOALS LISTED ABOVE.
WE ACHIEVE THIS THROUGH A CAREFULLY STRUCTURED CLASS FORMAT. EACH CLASS BEGINS WITH A SET OF TASKED BASED GAMES DESIGNED TO ENHANCE BALANCE, COORDINATION, AND DISCIPLINE, AND IMPROVE THEIR BJJ SKILLS.
THESE GAMES REVOLVE AROUND TAKEDOWNS, SUBMISSIONS, POSITIONAL CONTROL, AND BASIC GUARD ATTACKS. RATHER THAN FORCING YOUNGER CHILDREN TO WATCH A TECHNIQUE DEMONSTRATION, WE FIND THEY LEARN BEST THROUGH DOING. THESE GAMES ARE CRAFTED TO IMPROVE THEIR SKILLS, COORDINATION, AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, TO HAVE FUN SO THEY WANT TO COME BACK.
WE END THE SESSION WITH GAMES SO CHILDREN FEEL REJUVENATED AND HAVE HAD A FUN EXPERIENCE WHILE LEARNING, MAKING THEM WANT TO COME BACK AND TRAIN AGAIN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
WE ARE EXCITED FOR YOU TO EXPERIENCE THIS INCREDIBLE PROGRAM!
KIDS AGES 7 - 11
OUR PROGRAM IS TAILORED TO ENSURE THAT CHILDREN HAVE AN ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE WHILE LEARNING THE ART OF BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU. WE FOCUS ON DEVELOPING ESSENTIAL LIFE SKILLS,
IMPROVING COORDINATION, AND ENHANCING BALANCE.
WE USE THE ECOLOGICAL APPROACH IN PRACTICE. THIS MEANS THAT CONTEXT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF WHY A MOVEMENT IS WHAT IT IS, AND ALL TRAINING PROTOCOLS SHOULD BE LIVE AND AGAINST UNSCRIPTED AND UNCOOPERATIVE RESISTANCE.
WITHIN THAT, WE USE THE CONSTRAINTS-LED APPROACH, WHICH INVOLVES REMOVING OPPORTUNITIES FOR ACTION OR MOVEMENT SO SPECIFIC SOLUTIONS EMERGE. OUR MAIN GOAL IS TO TEACH YOU IMMOBILIZATION AS IT LEADS TO STRANGULATION AND BREAKING.
FURTHERMORE, OUR KIDS' PROGRAM IS STRUCTURED INTO TWO LEVELS, TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION EACH CHILD'S INDIVIDUAL GOALS AND CURRENT SKILL LEVEL. WE ALSO ASSESS THEIR ABILITY TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS AND REMAIN FOCUSED ON TASKS.
PLEASE NOTE:
We do allow kids aged 8-11 to attend the 6 PM class, but they need permission from the coach ahead of time. If you are interested in having your child attend, please send us an email. Please note that they must have at least 6 months of experience first.

WE BREAK UP LIVE TRAINING WITH GAMES ARE CRAFTED TO IMPROVE THEIR SKILLS, COORDINATION, AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, TO HAVE FUN SO THEY WANT TO COME BACK.
EACH CHILD PARTICIPATES IN APPROXIMATELY 3-5 ROUNDS, EACH LASTING AROUND 3 MINUTES.
MAKING THEM WANT TO COME BACK AND TRAIN AGAIN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

OUR MAIN GOAL IS TO TEACH YOU IMMOBILIZATION AS IT LEADS TO STRANGULATION AND BREAKING.
WE USE TWO APPROACHES FOR TEACHING BRAZILIAN JIU-JITSU (BJJ): SITUATIONAL SPARRING AND TASK-BASED GAMES. IN SITUATIONAL SPARRING, STUDENTS INTERACT WITHIN SPECIFIC SITUATIONS, SUCH AS STARTING IN THE MOUNTED POSITION, WITH PREDEFINED GOALS AND CONSTRAINTS. THIS METHOD ASSUMES STUDENTS ALREADY HAVE SOME BJJ KNOWLEDGE.
IN CONTRAST, TASK-BASED GAMES PROVIDE HUMAN-CENTRIC TASKS, LIKE PUSHING AN OPPONENT OFF OR KEEPING FEET IN FRONT, WHICH ARE RELATABLE AND UNDERSTANDABLE TO BEGINNERS. THIS APPROACH SOLVES PROBLEMS BY CREATING HUMAN PROBLEMS FIRST, ALLOWING STUDENTS TO LEARN THE CONTEXT AND THEN THE SOLUTION.
ALL LEVELS: WE USE SCALING TECHNIQUES FOR NEW STUDENTS AND BEGINNERS SO THAT THEY ARE RELATIVE TO THEIR ABILITIES AND CONTEXT.
WE MANIPULATE TIME, PARTNER SELECTION, AND COMPLEXITY OF TASKS TO INCREASE THE SCALE OF DIFFICULTY, SUCH AS IN THE MOUNT POSITION, WITH SIMPLER GOALS FOR BEGINNERS AND MORE COMPLEX ONES FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS.
teen ages 12 - 15
TEENS (AGES 12 - 15)
OUR PROGRAM FOR 12-15-YEAR-OLDS IS DESIGNED TO ASSIST TEENAGERS IN TRANSITIONING FROM KIDS' CLASSES TO ADULT CLASSES SEAMLESSLY. AS THEY GROW OLDER, WE INTRODUCE MORE ADVANCED TECHNIQUES THAT THEY CAN NOW COMPREHEND. ADDITIONALLY, WE COVER TECHNIQUES THAT WERE PREVIOUSLY PROHIBITED FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN, SUCH AS FOOTLOCKS AND OMOPLATAS.
PLEASE NOTE:
We do allow teens to attend the 5 PM class, but they need permission from the coach ahead of time. If you are interested in having your child attend this time slot, please email us.

FAQ
HOW DOES MY CHILD MOVE FROM LEVEL 01 TO LEVEL 02?
YOU AND YOUR CHILD CAN INITIATE A MEETING WITH THE LEAD INSTRUCTOR TO BEGIN THE PROCESS. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PROGRAM HAS A SEASON COMMITMENT AND A SIGNED COMMITMENT FORM.
FURTHER DETAILS REGARDING REQUIREMENTS CAN BE DISCUSSED WITH THE LEAD INSTRUCTOR DURING THE MEETING. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR CHILD MUST BE AT LEAST 4 YEARS OLD TO JOIN THE PROGRAM.
IF YOU'RE UNSURE WHETHER YOUR CHILD IS READY OR NOT, DON’T HESITATE TO ASK US!
WHEN AND HOW CAN MY CHILD BEGIN COMPETING?
WE ALLOW ANY CHILD TO COMPETE AS LONG AS THE INSTRUCTOR AGREES THEY ARE READY. WHILE COMPETITION TEACHES VALUABLE LESSONS SUCH AS RESILIENCY, DISCIPLINE, AND DEALING WITH REAL-WORLD PRESSURE,
IT'S IMPORTANT THAT THEY UNDERSTAND AND KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE COMPETING. A GOOD FIRST STEP IS TO ASK THE INSTRUCTOR ABOUT THE NEXT LOCAL COMPETITION AND ATTEND TO SUPPORT TEAMMATES.
THIS WILL HELP GAUGE YOUR CHILD'S INTEREST IN PARTICIPATING IN FUTURE COMPETITIONS.
HOW DO STRIPES AND BELT PROMOTIONS WORK?
WE FOLLOW THE IBJJF MONTHLY GRADUATION SYSTEM, WHICH MEANS THAT IF YOUR CHILD PUTS IN GOOD EFFORT, ATTENDS REGULARLY, AND SHOWS GOOD TECHNICAL PROGRESSION, THEY WILL RECEIVE A STRIPE EACH MONTH.
WE DON'T USE A SPECIFIC TIME FRAME FOR BELTS AS THOSE ARE EARNED THROUGH TECHNICAL PROGRESSION ABOVE ALL ELSE!
PLEASE NOTE THAT EVERY BELT COLOR HAS 3 RANKS (E.G., YELLOW WHITE, YELLOW SOLID, YELLOW AND BLACK). ADDITIONALLY, EVERY CHILD'S JOURNEY IS DIFFERENT, AND FACTORS SUCH AS AGE ARE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION.
YOUNGER CHILDREN MAY PROGRESS SLIGHTLY SLOWER THAN OLDER CHILDREN DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY WILL SPEND MORE TIME IN THE SPORT.
WHY AM I NOT ALLOWED TO COACH MY CHILD FROM THE SIDELINE?
OUR PRIMARY REASON FOR THIS POLICY IS THAT IT CAN BE DISTRACTING AND CREATE TOO MANY VOICES IN THE ROOM. THEREFORE, WE ASK PARENTS TO WATCH QUIETLY SO THAT INSTRUCTORS CAN WORK EFFECTIVELY WITH THE CHILDREN.
IF YOU, AS A PARENT, ARE INTERESTED IN COACHING, THE FIRST STEP IS TO START TRAINING YOURSELF!
ONCE YOU REACH A CERTAIN TECHNICAL LEVEL, WE WOULD WELCOME YOUR ASSISTANCE DURING CLASSES.
AM I ALLOWED TO FILM DURING THE CLASS?
PARENTS ARE PERMITTED TO FILM SHORT VIDEOS DURING WARM-UPS, DRILLS AND LIVE. HOWEVER, RECORDING OF LIVE TRAINING CANNOT BE USED TO PUT DOWN OTHER CHILDREN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE MORE INFORMATION ON THIS POLICY, PLEASE SPEAK TO THE INSTRUCTOR. YOU ARE ALSO ALLOWED TO TAKE PICTURES AND VIDEOS DURING YOUR CHILD'S PROMOTION.
